$8,000 Donated to Local Community Groups

Cronulla RSL is delighted to unveil the winners of the 2024 Trees of Hope initiative.

This year, 10 local not-for-profit organisations were invited to decorate a Christmas tree, now proudly displayed in the club foyer. Members, guests, staff, and board members cast their votes for their favorite tree, with the top choices receiving cash prizes.

Each organisation was encouraged to decorate their tree with ornaments representing the invaluable services they provide to the Sutherland Shire community. This wonderful program has allowed Cronulla RSL to contribute $8,000 to support the incredible work these groups do.

The winners for 2024 are:

  • Members Vote: Cronulla Community Cafe: The cafe provides essential support to those in need by offering a no-cost food service.

  • Board Vote: (Joint Winners) Cronulla Sub-Branch & Cronulla Sailabilty: Dedicated to serving veterans and their families, the Sub-Branch provides vital support and advocacy for those who have served our nation.

  • Staff Vote: Sutherland Shire Animal Shelter: The shelter cares for dogs and cats that have been abandoned, found stray, or surrendered, working tirelessly to reunite them with owners or find them loving new homes.

Although the remaining six organisations didn’t secure a major prize, each received a donation from the Club:

  • Dandelion Support Network Inc: A grassroots organisation assisting children and families in need.

  • Hopefield: Serving individuals experiencing poverty, disadvantage, or isolation.

  • Learning Links: Partnering with schools and families to support children with learning disabilities.

  • Sailability Cronulla: Providing sailing opportunities to the elderly, disadvantaged, and people with physical challenges.

  • Endeavour SKWAD: Raising funds to support students in support units within mainstream schools.

  • Surfers Rescue 24/7: Offering free board rescue and CPR courses to surfers and water users across NSW.

  • Kookaburra Kids Foundation: Supporting young people impacted by family mental illness.

  • Stellar Experiences: Facilitating social outings, travel, and individual experiences to promote inclusion and independence.

To add to the excitement, members and guests who voted were entered into a draw to win a Cronulla RSL restaurant voucher.
Congratulations to R.Fischer, this year’s lucky winner!

Cronulla RSL extends heartfelt thanks to all participants and voters for making the 2024 Trees of Hope a resounding success. For more information about this program, visit Trees of Hope website https://www.cronullarslcommunity.com.au/treesofhope.
