Local Champion Dan Michel Represents Australia in the Paralympics
We are thrilled to share that Cronulla local and proud member of the Cronulla Sutherland Boccia Club, Dan Michel, is representing Australia in the Paralympics! Dan's journey to the Paralympics is a remarkable story of dedication, community support, and passion for his sport.
Dan first discovered Boccia after attending a "Come Try" day organized by Muscular Dystrophy Australia. At that time, there was no local club or regular training venue available for him. This all changed in 2021, when Adam Palmer, President of the Cronulla Sutherland Boccia Club, decided to establish the club and invited Dan to join the committee as Secretary. Adam has been instrumental in fundraising for Dan's campaign, supporting his journey to compete in the upcoming Paralympics in Paris.
The Cronulla Sutherland Boccia Club, proudly sponsored by Cronulla RSL, meets every Tuesday and Saturday. If you’re interested in learning more about the club or getting involved, be sure to check out their Facebook page.
Dan made his Paralympic debut at the Rio Games, and later in Tokyo, where he became the first Australian Boccia player to compete at the Paralympics since the Sydney 2000 Games. At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Dan claimed bronze in the individual BC3 bronze medal match – Australia's first boccia medal since 1996. Now, he is set to represent our nation again on the world stage in Paris!
