Join us for a celebration of seniors, and a thank you for their contribution to community life in the Shire.

Cronulla RSL will be hosting a series of free activities as part of the NSW Seniors Festival, March 20th.

The Festival will provide an opportunity for our seniors to get together with friends by the beach (or meet new ones!), through sessions donated by local businesses and community groups in the Sutherland Shire.

All sessions will be held at the Cronulla RSL Memorial club (38 Gerrale Street, Cronulla) & are FREE to club members & guests.

14:00 | Hear how science and perseverance helped solve the mystery of the unknown serviceman found in a carley float off Christmas Island in February 1942. Tracing mitochondrial DNA via the female line is vital in solving this riddle but only part of the story. Identifying the unknown serviceman is the last paragraph in the tragic story of HMAS Sydney II and her lost crew of 645 men. We will briefly cover the action that led to the loss of HMAS Sydney II in November 1941 and then look at the twists and turns in the story of the unknown serviceman who was identified as Able Seaman Thomas Welsby Clark on 19 November 2021, the 80th anniversary of the loss of HMAS Sydney II

For a gold coin donation, enter to win a family pass to the Australian Maritime Museum.
