Santa Pics Supports Retired Military Working Dogs

At Cronulla RSL, we proudly recognise the service and sacrifice of not only our human veterans but also the incredible military working dogs (MWDs) who have served alongside them. These loyal and highly skilled dogs dedicate their lives to protecting and assisting defense personnel, often working in high-risk environments with unwavering courage. However, when their years of service come to an end, so does the Australian Defence Force's duty of care. Unlike human veterans, retired MWDs do not have access to a Department of Veteran Affairs, meaning their ongoing care falls solely on the families who take them in.

The costs associated with caring for a retired military dog can be substantial. Many of these dogs retire at an age where they are ineligible for pet insurance, leaving their adoptive families to cover veterinary expenses, food, and specialised care entirely out of pocket. This can be an overwhelming financial burden, making the support of organisations like the Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation (AWAMO) and community-driven initiatives conducted by Cronulla RSL essential.

We are proud to announce that Santa Pics has also recognised this critical need and stepped up to make a difference. Through Santa Photos held at the Club in the lead up to Christmas and generous cash donations, Santa Pics has raised an impressive $2,345 to support the ongoing care of local retired military working dogs & honourary four-legged Cronulla RSL members, Aslan and Manic.

This contribution will go a long way in ensuring these loyal companions receive the care and support they need after a lifetime of dedicated service. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Santa Pics and everyone who contributed to this initiative. Your generosity is helping to give these incredible dogs the comfortable and happy retirement they deserve.

At Cronulla RSL, we will continue to champion causes that honour and support our military community. If you’d like to contribute to the care of retired military working dogs or learn more about how you can help, please reach out to us.

Thank you Santa Pics, for standing with us in recognising and supporting these unsung heroes.
