Sutherland Shire to Unite for Men’s Mental Health at [Mo]re Than A Run in Cronulla

Cronulla, NSW — On Saturday, November 30th, the Sutherland Shire community will come together for [Mo]re Than A Run, a powerful initiative supporting men’s mental health through running and walking. Powered by Lululemon, the event aims to raise funds for Movember, breaking down barriers around mental health and creating a lasting impact.

Runners and walkers will gather in South Cronulla as part of a decentralised event, with participants across the country choosing from a 10km, 30km, or 60km run, or opting for a 10, 30, or 60-minute walk at the same time. Each distance symbolises critical statistics on men’s mental health:

  • 10km or 10-minute walk: Honouring the 1 in 10 men living with an anxiety disorder worldwide.

  • 30km or 30-minute walk: Representing the 30% rise in the number of Australian men dying by suicide over the last decade.

  • 60km or 60-minute walk: Commemorating the 60 men lost to suicide every hour around the world.

This year, key figures from the running and wellness community are uniting to bring [Mo]re Than A Run to life in Cronulla. Michael Chapman of Chappo Health & Nutrition, Renee Pilley and Lucy Vaughn from Lululemon Miranda Store, and Riley Kilham from The Running Company are collaborating to gather the community for this incredible cause.

Michael Chapman said, “Hosting [Mo]re Than A Run during Movember helps bring the Sutherland Shire community together for men’s health. We have 10km, 30km, and 60km runs, all representing key statistics in men’s mental health in Australia. This year, we are also adding walking options of 10, 30, and 60 minutes to allow even more of our community to get involved.”

In 2023, the wet weather didn’t dampen the spirits of participants, who came together in an inspiring display of solidarity, raising close to $3,000 for Movember. Participants from all walks of life united to run and walk around Cronulla for men’s mental health, finishing at the Cronulla RSL Bowling Green.

“Over the past four years, this has been a great opportunity for the Sutherland community to move, connect, and create positive impacts and conversations around men’s mental health. We had 345 registrations last year, and we hope to get even more people down there this year,” said Chapman.

Riley Kilham from The Running Company said, “[Mo]re Than A Run has truly opened my eyes to the positive impact it’s having on our community in Cronulla. It’s heartening to see so many people out running together, not just for fitness but for connection and conversation about men’s mental health.”

“The energy on the day is infectious - strangers become friends as we share stories and support one another. It’s more than just exercise; it’s movement that breaks down barriers and encourages open dialogue. Witnessing this shift in our community gives me hope and reminds me of the power of collective effort in creating conversations around men’s mental health!” said Kilham.

Since its inception, [Mo]re Than A Run has raised over $1.9 million for men’s mental health, making it Movember’s largest community fundraiser to date. This event brings the community together, inviting everyone to participate, connect, and engage in life-saving conversations about mental health.
