Books in Lieu
Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch is again seeking support with their “Books in Lieu of Wreaths” program for their 2024 ANZAC Day Dawn Service. This is an initiative that benefits local schools.
ANZAC Day is a day where commemorate Australians & New Zealanders killed in war, and honour returned and serving servicemen and women. It is a special day at Cronulla RSL, that features many symbols and traditions that have been in place for decades.
Our beautiful club opens early before sunrise, for people to gather before the ANZAC March & Dawn Service. After the service, guests are offered rum and milk, are treated to a special breakfast menu at the restaurant.
There is one other tradition, that not only commemorates the day, but also gives back to our local community of Cronulla; The Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch’s ‘Books in Lieu’ Program.

The ‘Books in Lieu’ program was originally created to give members of the public and local businesses/community groups, an option of “books in lieu of wreaths” (meaning a donation, instead of a wreath laid on the Memorial as part of our service).
The program has been running for well over 25 years, and it is the hope our local businesses/community groups continue on this legacy in remembrance and also continue to support our local schools.

After your donation, you will be given an individually worded place card (which can be made in memory of a loved one). This card is placed on the memorial during our wreath laying ceremony of the Dawn Service. Donations are equally divided amongst the local schools in the Cronulla RSL Schools Program.

Once you make your donation, our book supplier will provide us with a $35 voucher. This voucher will be then provided to local schools, so they can select a book of their choice. Once selected the book supplier will place a label inside the book, identifying the donor.

Placecards will be available for collection from Cronulla RSL reception, from 16th. Any placecards not collected by 22nd April will be laid by a member of the Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch on your behalf.
